To further implement the blueprint for building a leading educational nation and comprehensively advance higher education reform, NKU, aligning with the digital intelligent development trend, has merged the School of Journalism and Communication with the Department of Information Resources Management from the Business School to establish the School of Information and Communication, NKU. This initiative aims to address national strategic needs and leverage the complementary strengths of information and communication to foster a more competitive academic ecosystem and create a model for New Liberal Arts education with exemplary significance.

On October 17, NKU held a meeting for faculty members and administrative staff of the School of Information and Communication. President Chen Yulu attended and addressed the meeting. Qu Mingjun, Deputy Secretary of the CPC NKU Committee, presided over the event. Wang Chenghui, Member of the Standing Committee of the CPC NKU Committee and Head of Organization Department, announced the official notification regarding the establishment of the School of Information and Communication, NKU and the related appointment decisions. Li Yuelin, Assistant to the President, Director of the Teaching Affairs Office, and Dean of the School of Information and Communication, and Ma Changhong, Secretary of the CPC Committee of the School of Information and Communication, also attended the meeting.

In his speech, Chen Yulu noted that the establishment of the School of Information and Communication marks a key step for NKU in responding to the digital transformation era, addressing the country's urgent need for strategic communication capabilities, and advancing the development of first-class disciplines. With the industrial landscape reshaped by digital technologies and cultural communication undergoing profound changes, China has rolled out major strategies, including digital China, cultural powerhouse, and building China into a country strong on communication. With the integration of two first-level disciplines, Information Resources Management and Digital Intelligent Society and Journalism & Communication, along with two professional degree programs in Library & Information Science and Publishing, the newly founded School constitutes an important reform initiative to implement national strategic priorities. It aims to better serve national strategic needs by strengthening disciplinary synergy. It also helps break development bottlenecks, strengthen coordinated discipline development, and promote innovative growth in NKU's New Liberal Arts initiatives.

Chen Yulu stressed that the School of Information and Communication must uphold fundamental principles and break new ground, pursue steady and long-term growth, and aim for the creation of world-class disciplines. The School should implement the reform vision of the University's Party Committee, and focus on the development and governance model of fine traditional Chinese culture and Chinese modernization. It should also explore new paradigms for information collection, organization, and dissemination - particularly in international communication - and cultivate top-notch, innovative talent with global competitiveness. The School should attract national-level leading talents and innovative teams to support first-class discipline development. By comprehensively, systematically, and scientifically planning key directions and tasks for the School and its disciplines, it should boldly explore the School's development within the framework of the New Liberal Arts. Through unity and collaborative efforts, the School will pave the way for the high-quality development of information and communication disciplines at NKU, thus contributing to the building of a world-class university with distinctive NKU features and Chinese characteristics.

All faculty and staff of the School of Information and Communication attended the meeting.
